Budapest Zoo is the largest and most famous zoo in Hungary. The zoo is also a botanical garden. You can find, similar to a big zoo in Germany, almost all typical zoo animals in the Budapest Zoo.

How to get there: Budapest Zoo is located in the City Park of Budapest, a well-known park about 3 kilometers from the city center. You can easily reach the park with the zoo by taking the subway line 1, stop Szechenyi Fürdö (Szechenyi Thermal Bath).

Entrance fees Budapest Zoo 2024: As an adult you pay 4500 Forint entrance fee (about 12 Euro, as of the beginning of 2024. There are discounts for children, students, pensioners and families, among others.

Dogs Budapest Zoo: Bringing dogs is not allowed. Exception: registered assistance dogs with appropriate documentation and proof of vaccination. The documents must be submitted to the zoo by email at least two working days before the visit. In response, the zoo will either approve or refuse the visit with a dog.

In the reptile and amphibian houses of the zoo, visitors can see snakes, crocodiles, turtles and numerous fish from all over the world. The aquariums offer an insight into life under water, both tropical and native fish.

Buildings

The zoo is known for its many historic buildings, which were built in the Art Nouveau and historicist style. Particularly striking is the elephant house with its dome-like structure and the giraffe house, which is also architecturally striking.

The entrance fee and incidental costs are somewhat lower than in a comparable zoo in Western Europe. Overall, we liked Budapest Zoo. If you have time and interest, you should visit the zoo.
